Morning Sickness


Any pregnant woman will tell you that living with nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is debilitating. Most will try many different tacks to alleviate symptoms.

It is thought that nausea during pregnancy is a result of the hormone human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG). hCG is produced in large quantities until the placenta is large enough to maintain and support the pregnancy. This is usually around 12 to 14 weeks and hence this is usually the duration of morning sickness.  Other hormones are also thought to be somewhat involved (Tobah, 2016).

Some ways to reduce symptoms include:

·      Eat small meals often
·      Take Vitamin B6 supplements as they reduce nausea
·      Avoid greasy food
·      Increase protein consumption
·      Drink at lease 2L water daily
·      Avoid caffeinated drinks and beverages
·      Try eating something salty prior to a meal if you are having trouble keeping food down e.g. salty plum

In addition to these, the following herbal mix will help settle and alleviate the symptoms of morning sickness.
