The following herbal remedy assists with the relief of gout. It targets pain by reducing uric acid accumulation in the body. This herbal mixture is excellent for alkalizing the body and blood to help minimize acidity which will assist with swelling, pain and inflammation.
Gout is a type of arthritis caused by an excess or build up of uric acid I the tissues or blood. Chemicals known as purines are broken down to uric acid which is further broken down by enzymes called uricases, into soluble compounds. Insufficient uricase will result in accumulation of uric acid in the blood and tissues. This crystallizes into the form  of needle-shaped compounds that jabs the tissues causing pain and inflammation (Alverez-Lario, 2010).

More often than not the crystals form in the big toe, but other joints can be affected as well, including the ankle, knee, fingers and wrist. Symptoms include:
• Swelling
• Redness
• Sudden and intense pain
• Sensitivity to touch

Gout attacks often occur at lower temperature as crystals are more likely to form under these conditions.  Repeat attacks can lead to tissue damage. Normally, uric acid is a useful antioxidant in the body, however when levels become elevated abnormally it becomes problematic.

Diet is thought to contribute. Foods high in purines such as sardines, mushrooms, anchovies, sardines, asparagus, lentils and organ meats can contribute to gout. Also a number of supplements and drugs can also increase uric acid levels. Excess alcohol consumption along with being overweight increase the likelihood of gout.
